Venus Tunes Live is a powerful dj live act. Danceable, crossing over between jazz, funk, soul and house with a lot of original material and funky tracks by others. Changing positions - between standing behind the dj decks and rocking the mics front stage - makes the show dynamic and varied. Venus Tunes Live, named after Alt’s record label Venus Tunes, likes to interact with the audience and get everybody on their feet; clapping, singing, dancing and have a really good time.
In 2016, Susanne Alt (saxophone player/producer/dj) impressed the international music scene with “Saxify”, an ambitious project including 36 of the finest and most experienced musicians from USA, Europe and Russia including Fred Wesley (trombone) and Gary Winters (trumpet). Alt started to ask herself how to ever perform the repertoire of Saxify on stage.. a monster project!
Right after the album release, dance remixes started to come in from all over the world. They were played on radio stations everywhere, From USA to Australia, from Portugal to Japan… DJ Spinna’s and Opolopo’s remixes appeared in the Top 40 of dj portals Traxsource and Beatport. The decision was made: The Saxify repertoire should be performed in a contmporary setting, not by a traditional band. After some try-outs, this combination worked out really well: Susanne Alt (sax/dj), Mavis Acquah (vocals/dj) and Femke Krone (percussion/vocals).

About the band members:
Susanne Alt:
Saxophone player, producer and dj, born in Würzburg, Germany and living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands since the late 90’s. She graduated from studying jazz in Amsterdam and Berlin and released several solo albums. Many years she toured with her jazz band and house dj’s. In 2015 she had her first booking as a dj, since then her additional career started to expand. Since 2016, next to her gigs on sax with dj’s, she has regular gigs in Amsterdam and also performs internationally as a dj/saxophonist. She has a monthly mix on radio Freak 31: Venus Tunes Sessions: Soulful House & Saxy Flavours.
Mavis Acquah:
Vocalist, songwriter and dj, born in Amsterdam; her mother is Indonesian, her father from Ghana. After a law study she decided to change plans and go for a career in music; she visited the theatre school “The Lion King” and even did some acting in Dutch tv series. For years now, she’s been working with famous dj’s and producers, live and in the studio, a.o. Roog & Hardsoul Live, Gregor Salto, Laidback Luke, Dennis Quin. Together with Gijs Huijs she has a writer’s duo called The Rise.
Femke Krone:
Percussionist, background vocalist, teaching percussion workshops for a.o. Remo. Born in Amstelveen, with a Latvian mother and a Dutch father. Throughout the years she performed with many Dutch and international bands and dj’s like Jan Smit, Take That, Ten Sharp, Roog, Erick E and DJ Rose.
