They made me giggle!
This photo was taken backstage after a concert of Ginger Baker Jazz Confusion at Bimhuis, Amsterdam in 2015.
I first saw Pee Wee in the early 90's when he was on tour with Maceo Parker. It took me years to get to know about the history! I got to know them as Maceo, Pee Wee & Fred, the horn players who took center stage and had this great funky concerts who went on for 4 or 5 hours with the grooving rhythm sections together with Bruno Speight (guitar), Will Boulware (keys), Jerome Preston (bass) and Jamal Thomas (drums). The audience was exhausted from dancing. Youth sentiment!
Tenor saxophone player Pee Wee Ellis was an important band member of James Brown and wrote important saxophone tunes like Cold Sweat, The Chicken and one of James Brown's most important statement tunes " Say it loud - I am black and I am proud". But he was so much more: Read more about him on
Wikipedia.
