Nederlands Jazz ArchiefEnglish:Saxophonist Susanne Alt hails from Germany but has long been a part of our jazz scene. Royalty For Real has the aura of a prestigious product. It is also a tribute to the late trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Hargrove was fond of participating in the after-hours sessions at North Sea Jazz; Alt occasionally played alongside him there – hence Bel Air Bop, one of the seven tracks. The saxophonist/flutist wrote five of the tracks herself, in addition to The Nearness of You and Roy Allan by Hargrove. The album was recorded in February 2022 in New York with pianist James Hurt, bassist Gerald Cannon, and drummer Willie Jones III. - Door Rakendra Smit(...) Voor live-albums wordt meestal geput uit opnames van meedere concerten. Susanne Alt besloot het andersom te doen door de opnamen van slechts een concert te gebruiken. Moedig om je zo kwetsbaar op te stellen.Het eerste wat opvalt is het levende, brede en transparante geluid van de opnamen, een pluim voor Micha de Kanter die de opname en mix deed.De composities van Susanne Alt kenmerken zich door speelsheid, lichte nostalgie en functionele open arrangementen. Pianist Thijs Cuppen legt een breed en funky akkoordentapijt neer met hier en daar mooie muzikale uitspattingen, daarbij hecht ondersteund door drummer Philippe Lemm en bassist Sven Schuster. Susanne Alt decided to do it the other way round to do the recordings of only one concert. Brave to be so vulnerable.The first thing you notice is the living, broad and transparent sound of the recordings, a plume of Micha de Kanter who did the recording and mix.Susanne Alt's compositions are characterized by playfulness, light nostalgia and functional open packages. Pianist Thijs Cuppen lays down a broad and funky carpet with some nice musical excesses, thereby closely supported by Philippe Lemm drummer and bassist Sven Schuster. That's why Susanne Alt can show what she has in store. The CD therefore guarantees two hours of listening pleasure.
