Nederlands Jazz ArchiefEnglish:Saxophonist Susanne Alt hails from Germany but has long been a part of our jazz scene. Royalty For Real has the aura of a prestigious product. It is also a tribute to the late trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Hargrove was fond of participating in the after-hours sessions at North Sea Jazz; Alt occasionally played alongside him there – hence Bel Air Bop, one of the seven tracks. The saxophonist/flutist wrote five of the tracks herself, in addition to The Nearness of You and Roy Allan by Hargrove. She collaborated with more than 30 musicians and produced it herself, the album is also available as double LP.1. What's the story behind your new album Saxify?This is the album I always wanted to make. I am very proud that so many of my musical heroes participated like Fred Wesley and the saxophonist of Earth, Wind &Fire..2. How did you find yourself in funk?Funk was in my life from when I was 15, because of Maceo Parker, Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley who made the album Live on planet groove. I played this album a lot, along with the live album of Earth, Wind&Fire, Incognito and Jamiroquai.3. In what period ar you now in your career?In a focused period with a lot inspiration! I am going to continue with producing and playing, it's the nicest thing there is.4. What's your biggest musical dream?What I am doing now: writing, producing and playing. I am working with great musicians and dj's and making a living from it.5. In the nearby future, what are you looking forward to the most?I am looking forward to the new collaborations which will outflow from this album. Every time I release an album new people hear my music and it often leads to new things, exciting!
