Susanne Alt made a couple of beautiful albums with exciting jazz. On Saxify she draws on different sources and serves a very different cup of tea. Live she’s either playing with her jazz quartet or with dj’s (Wicked Jazz Sounds, DJ Maetsro, Roog). Also she toured with Fred Wesley and the New JB’s and played with George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic. On Saxify which came out on vinyl but is also available in a small amount on cd,Alt shows her funky side: ecstatic, joyous and free.
Saxify sounds uncomplicated and danceable, but musically the album stays fascinating and shows more depth than on might expect after first listening. Alt invited different musical friends and smongst them, there are big boys who won their spurs at George Clinton, James Brown and Earth, WInd & Fire. Lorrèn, Berenice van Leer and Mavis Acquah delivered some of the vocals.
Saxify is - for our country - a rare funky album.
