Nederlands Jazz ArchiefEnglish:Saxophonist Susanne Alt hails from Germany but has long been a part of our jazz scene. Royalty For Real has the aura of a prestigious product. It is also a tribute to the late trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Hargrove was fond of participating in the after-hours sessions at North Sea Jazz; Alt occasionally played alongside him there – hence Bel Air Bop, one of the seven tracks. The saxophonist/flutist wrote five of the tracks herself, in addition to The Nearness of You and Roy Allan by Hargrove. The album was recorded in February 2022 in New York with pianist James Hurt, bassist Gerald Cannon, and drummer Willie Jones III. - English:Saxify is the new title of the Dutch saxophonist Susanne Alt and it’s mainly presented as a double LP, but it’s also available on CD in small amount. It’s a colourful album where 50 years of funk and soul come together, from Earth, WInd & Fire and The S.O.S. Band to George Clinton and his many bands and projects. In the last years the Amsterdam musician worked together with many leaders of this kind of world of which a part of them also make an apprearance on Saxify.Still, she doesn’t get stuck in the past because the album sounds fresh and vital, while Alt leaves her own signature very clearly.
