Nederlands Jazz ArchiefEnglish:Saxophonist Susanne Alt hails from Germany but has long been a part of our jazz scene. Royalty For Real has the aura of a prestigious product. It is also a tribute to the late trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Hargrove was fond of participating in the after-hours sessions at North Sea Jazz; Alt occasionally played alongside him there – hence Bel Air Bop, one of the seven tracks. The saxophonist/flutist wrote five of the tracks herself, in addition to The Nearness of You and Roy Allan by Hargrove. The album was recorded in February 2022 in New York with pianist James Hurt, bassist Gerald Cannon, and drummer Willie Jones III. - (...) Op haar vorige cd ‘Live at the Bimhuis’ was het ‘funky stuff’ dat de klok sloeg. Op ‘How to Kiss’ is de muzikale lijn echter naar souljazz omgebogen. Trompettist Loet van der Lee is op twee stukken te gast. Hij trekt die stukken met zijn bijdragen meer in de richting van vloeiende jazz. Ook Thijs van Leer (op de Hammond L100) is voor enkele nummers ingehuurd. In ‘Willow Weep For Me’ begeleidt hij op zijn best. Jos de Haas tuigt in tweederde van de stukken het ritme op. En, over veranderingen gesproken, Susanne Alt zingt. Op het slotnummer van de cd, 'Just a Little Loving’ zingt ze smachtend haar tekst. Lekker swingende feestmuziek deze plaat. Trumpeter Loet van der Lee is guest in two pieces. He pulls the pieces with his contributions in the direction of fluent jazz. Also Thijs van Leer (on Hammond L100) has been hired for some songs. In Willow Weep For Me ', he accompanies at his best. Jos de Haas rigs the rhythms in two thirds of the album. And, talking about changes, Susanne Alt sings. On the final song of the album, Just a Little Loving she sings wistfully her text. Nice swinging party music, this album. (Hessel Fluitman)
