Nederlands Jazz ArchiefEnglish:Saxophonist Susanne Alt hails from Germany but has long been a part of our jazz scene. Royalty For Real has the aura of a prestigious product. It is also a tribute to the late trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Hargrove was fond of participating in the after-hours sessions at North Sea Jazz; Alt occasionally played alongside him there – hence Bel Air Bop, one of the seven tracks. The saxophonist/flutist wrote five of the tracks herself, in addition to The Nearness of You and Roy Allan by Hargrove. The album was recorded in February 2022 in New York with pianist James Hurt, bassist Gerald Cannon, and drummer Willie Jones III. - door Ditmer Weertman(...) Dit is er een (cd) zonder gasten, in tegenstelling tot de vorige cd waar Fred Wesley aan meedeed. Maar het kwartet heeft die ook niet nodig, het speelt dezelfde aanstekelijke funky jazz. Met name in de stevige nummers wordt er goed uitgepakt met veel ruimte voor soms zinderende solo's van de bandleden waarbij pianist Thijs Cuppen soms wisselt naar Fender Rhodes. Maar ook op de rustige nummers, waarop Alt ook op sopraansax overgaat, wordt mooi melodieus gespeeld. Een registratie van een aanstekelijke jazzavond waarop het publiek het prima naar de zin had.Englishby Dtmer Weertman(...) This is a (CD) without any guests, in contrast to the previous disc, where Fred Wesley participated. But the quartet doesn't need a guest, it plays the same catchy funky jazz. Particularly in the heavier tunes there's enough space for showing what they can and playing shiny solos by the band members with pianist Thijs Cuppen sometimes switching to Fender Rhodes. But even in the quiet songs, where Alt switches to soprano saxophone, is beautiful melodic playing. A registration of a catchy jazz evening in which the audience thoroughly was enjoying.
