I had a very nice summer, I hope you had one, too! I mean, the weather was nothing, I am still waiting for the summer to come but... I worked hard on the recordings and met some new people:
During a gig with DJ Maestro on a festival called Jazz at the lake I met a band called Euro Cinema . Unfortunately it was raining very hard and all the visitors eventualy went home, slowly but surely; but it had one advance: I got to hang out with other bands, and mainly Euro Cinema. They asked me to sit in with them, and so I did. We had an instant musical click and came to the conclusion that we would have to meet again and rehearse and play sometimes together. Said and done, we played already 2 gigs together and actually one more at the beach but that was because I spontaniously popped by. And there was the "Uitmarkt", the opening of the Dutch cultural season. The national tv, NTR/Ned 2, had approached me to film a bit and ask a few questions for the program Kunststof. Well... It became a whole big fat item! I was performing together with my band: Thijs Cuppen on piano, Sven Schuster, bass and Eran Har Even on guitar and as special guest Jamal Thomas, the drummer of S.O.S. Band and Maceo Parker. It was a big honor to have him with me because he's been one of my favourite drummers since I started to experience jazz and funk. He happens to live in Belgium these days. The tv program filmed the whole performance, but also interviewed Jamal Thomas about me and they also filmed my gig later that evening together with DJ Maestro. They all broadcasted it in a live interview with me, I was truly surprised.. it turned out to be an item of 10 minutes instead of 2 minutes..... On national tv, saturday night!!!
