Vinyl Wednesday: D'Angelo - Live At The Jazz Cafe, London
This is one of my favourite live albums, first I had it on cd, it was a Japan import and costed a fortune.. A few years ago I found it on vinyl and it costed a fortun again, but nevermind..
When you go to a (rare) D'Angelo concert, everything sounds very different from the studio recording. D'Angelo knows what works in the studio and what works live. These are the songs from album "Brown Sugar" and you clearly can hear Angie Stone in the backing vocals, and the whole band sounds just fantastic. The vocal arrangements are some of the best I know, except from P-Funk or gospel music. As a matter of fact, those are some of D'Angelo's main influences.
